About Sao Paulo Airport

Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport is a major gateway to Brazil. Situated 25 kilometers northeast of downtown Sao Paulo, the facility is Latin America's most active airport. The joint civilian/military airfield is one of the three major airports that serve Sao Paulo. It derives part of its name from Guarulhos, the community in which it is located.

Thirty million passengers travel through the three terminal buildings each year. Numerous air carriers provide direct and connecting flights to 153 worldwide and domestic destinations, such as Caracas, New York City, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro. In 2001, the airport added the name Andre Franco Montoro to commemorate the former governor of Sao Paulo. Local residents refer to the facility as Cumbica Airport, its original name.

In 1967, the Brazilian government decided to enlarge Sao Paulo Air Force Base to support commercial aviation. This action was necessitated by a dramatic increase in air travel. The newly renovated airport opened in 1985. The airport has undergone several expansion projects. Construction of a fourth terminal building began in 2011. The airport's runways and passenger jetways support all next generation aircraft, including the new Airbus 380. The airport has two terminals that are connected on the boarding level by a concourse and the third is accessible by shuttle bus.

There is a wide variety of shops, restaurants and passenger amenities. These include ATMs, banks, currency exchange facilities, urgent medical services, drug stores, a hair salon, a spa, and a 24-hour post office. In addition to VIP lounges, there are conference rooms and meeting space that can accommodate up to 100 participants. Passengers can access complimentary wireless Internet in the boarding area. There are 3,098 long and short-term parking spaces available in surface lots adjacent to Terminals 1 and 2. Rental car counters are located inside the terminals.
